Coach
The Minneapolis Rowing Club (MRC) accepts coach applications on an ongoing basis.
We offer competitive and recreational rowing opportunities for youth and adults. Approximately 75% of our members participate in coached programs.
We row on the Mississippi River between the Lower St. Anthony Lock and Dam and Lock and Dam 1 (aka Ford Dam) which offers 4.5 miles of continuous rowing. Our on the water rowing season runs April – October with limited land-based winter training opportunities to coach during the off season.
The ideal candidate will:
- Fulfill coaching needs with one or more programs such as competitive open and or master’s programs, adult recreational program, adult novice and development programs, middle school and high school youth programs, or sculling-specific programming.
- Demonstrate commitment to MRC’s mission and guiding principles
- Participate in coach meetings and professional development opportunities
- Work under supervision, adhere to club rules and standards, and contribute to the welfare of members and efficient operation of the club
Required Qualifications:
- USRowing Level I Coach Certification
- Active USRowing membership
- Compliant with USRowing SafeSport requirements
- Possess or willing to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification
- Possess or willing to obtain MN Department of Natural Resources Boater Education Card (or possess other state equivalent)
- For youth coaches - Completed or willing to complete a concussion awareness course

Junior Team Head Coach & Rigger
The Juniors Head Coach will be responsible for overseeing and implementing all of the club's youth related programming in partnership with parents, board members, volunteers, and other MRC staff. The Juniors Head Coach will assess and adjust programming to meet the training and development needs of youth rowing at all levels. Reporting to the Club Manager, the Juniors Head Coach will bring strong coaching, operational, leadership and communications skills, along with a commitment to youth engagement and community building.
For qualified candidates, the Rigger position is also responsible for the upkeep, repair, and availability of MRC’s fleet and equipment including boats, oars, trailers, exercise equipment, and boathouse facilities.
Additional coaching may be available within our masters program for qualified and interested candidates.

Rigger Position
Minneapolis Rowing Club (MRC) is a community-focused 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to inspiring a lifelong passion for the sport of rowing. As we continue to grow, we seek a skilled Rigger to oversee the maintenance and repair of our equipment and facilities. This role ensures our fleet and boathouse are safe, well-maintained, and ready for use, supporting all club members, programs, and events throughout the year.
Working closely with the volunteer board member Commodore, the Rigger is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and availability of MRC’s fleet and equipment. This includes boats, oars, trailers, exercise equipment, and boathouse facilities. The Rigger reports to the MRC Board of Governors, taking direction from the Commodore.
